Field Notes

Description:

Saprophyte that is fairly common compared to all the other monotropa in the Appalachian mountains
Can be whitish yellow, darker yellow orange, or orange and red

Habitat:

Appalachian mountains from Maine down to South Carolina and west to the Smokey mountains in Tennessee

Notes:

Does not photosynthesize has a symbiotic relationship with fungi that feeds on pines, furs, and beech trees
