Field Notes

Description:

A darkling beetle approx. 22mm long; a deep magenta colour with small tufts of white hairs all over giving a 'flocked' appearance; interesting sickle shaped tarsi ?

Habitat:

Found under strong night lights at a local school yard.

Notes:

Tenebrionidae but is it Lepispilus rotundicollis? Needs a closer look. Sickle tarsi? size? colour? compare Leuba's http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/15718179 and Martin's and other sources.
Note the dates for an early appearance.
