Field Notes

Description:

The largest of our North American butterflies is a magnificent insect with a wing span of some four inches and with rich color of black and yellow. It was so large it looked like two butterflies. It flies leisurely about from flower to flower. Two bands of orange yellow. Unusual to see in Vermont. Due to the weather changes they are starting to be seen in the recent years.

Notes:

I have never seen such a large butterfly. Wonderful!
