Field Notes

Description:

The upperside of this skipper's wings are dark orange/black with many orange spots. Underside of front wing - orange with black spots, hind wing orange with cream coloured spots.

Wingspan: 1 - 1 1/4 inches (2.5 - 3.2 cm)

Habitat:

Often seen in open spaces in heavily forested areas, in marshes, meadows and beside streams. Adults eat nectar from various flowers.

Notes:

I noticed this little skipper while walking through the marsh. He stood out because of all the orange spots on his wings. Very pretty and flashy. I had also spotted one earlier in the year, also in the marsh.
