Field Notes

Description:

Catterpillar is a dark black colour with some pale yellow striping on it's sides, a black head and spikey tufts down the length of it's body.

Habitat:

Lives in near woodlands in wet areas, moist fields and marshes. The caterpillar is often spotted on Stinging Nettle.

Notes:

I noticed this caterpillar while taking pictures of a green grasshopper. It was resting on the leaf of a Stinging Nettle plant by the side of the creek.
