Description:

Brookgreen Gardens. This is a tree which had these head sized clumps of flowers growing off of it, and they smelled really good (I think, or maybe they smelled really bad. I don't remember lol).

Well done, Bryce. That's an excellent link you've provided too.
Interesting, Bryce, thanks for the info ...
Your call, groosha6, but I was just thinking that I'm really glad Neil made the ID Suggestion. They're just suggestions and sometimes I think we're a little too timid about it ... or I am at least.
I've explored the various suggestions and although I haven't found any pictures that look 1 million % exact, I think it is a crepe myrtle.
I looked out the window ... there's a crape myrtle out there. The shape of the leaves seems OK but, yeah, a little big. Do you suppose our eyes are being fooled by the angle? That it seems larger than it is? Is it pretty ...
At first I thought it was a Crepe Myrtle too, but it was only the size and shape of the leaves that made me look elsewhere. Whatever it is, these flowers are magnificent.
Or maybe a very enthusiastic crape myrtle, Lagerstroemia sp?
Hi groosha6. I've made a spotting suggestion for you. Does this spotting look like the tree you saw? http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/241296227
