Beija-flor-rajado (Saw-billed Hermit)

Measuring 16 cm, 10 g, this is the largest hummingbird in the Atlantic Forest and one of the largest in the world. Tops greenish brown, dark head, orange neck with a dark stripe in the middle, orange face, with wide black transocular band and narrow brownish eyebrow, being lighter in male; bottoms drab, widely black ribbed, specially in the chest. Black wings, broad tail, not extended to the central rectrices, black and pale brown sides. Strong beak, wide in the base, straight and ending in a hook in the male and gently curved in thew female, which can be explained by differences in dietary habits; yellow mandible and black maxilla. Female and immatures have a smaller macula in the throat.
