Description:

This lemon is irregularly shaped and made me think of the Buddha's Hand fruit. It seems to have been caused by a pest. Perhaps by the Citrus Bug Mite - Eriophyes sheldoni. The fifth image shows the inside of the fruit.

Habitat:

Lemon tree in backyard orchard

Lemon fruit malformation as a result of early infestation of flowers by a very small mite
Good job. Golden scalpel award to you. The bits look waspish but hard to tell.
Series completed. I cut it open and it looks like there was something in there at one point.
We have a similar problem http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/19300640 which seems to be associated with a citrus gall wasp. http://www.bugsforbugs.com.au/product/Citrus-gall-wasp-parasite
I hope you update with a dissection photo, would love to see inside that thing.
Hi Keith, thank you. I just checked the fruit and it's still green. This was taken on June 1st and little has changed yet. I'll keep checking.
That is crazy looking very unusual, favored it! If you can take an updated photo when its yellow.
