Field Notes

Description:

The Mossy Saxifrage is found over most of Iceland. It grows on moist rocks, screes, cliffs and by mountain streams, more rarely on sand dunes, often in partial shade. It is recognized from other local saxifrages by its narrow leaves of mossy appearance.

Habitat:

Marshy area in floodplain, Skaftafell National Park. Last shot in the spotting below shows the habitat:

Notes:

The word saxifrage originates from the Latin saxum, rock, and and frangere, to break. Some of these plants are known for their capacity to grow in rock crevices.

Thanks Satyen! The great thing about flowers is that they rarely come alone :-)
