Field Notes

Description:

The cap was 1 to 2 cm large, the stem is about 5-6 cm high and the cap has a small nipple on top. Growing on sheep or deer dung, on a pasture.
Please help me identify this spotting.

I have added another photo with clearer colors. I think it's P. luteonitens.

We get their relatives on kangaroo and wombat dung. :-)

P luteonitens looks good too. the Italians and French are talking about them http://www.funghiitaliani.it/index.php?showtopic=23967 and http://www.mycodb.fr/fiche.php?genre=Psilocybe&espece=luteonitens It might be hard to prove species though as they all look similar. P luteonitens is tall like yours.

A friend of mine found them and last evening he showed them to me. At first it seemed to be a Psilocybe sp., but as I said, I could not find much on the subject on the web. This has been bugging me all night long :)

Hey Mark, thanks for the suggestion. I have a hunch it's Psilocybe luteonitens but I can't find much on the net on it.

Ha! They look great floating freely in space. Maybe a good chance of Psilocybe coprophila.. (Deconica coprophila, commonly known as the dung-loving Psilocybe, is a species of mushroom in the Strophariaceae family - wiki)
