Field Notes

Description:

This is a male spider with light markings on the abdomen. This is the 5th spider of this species I've found in my backyard.

Habitat:

Originally from South America. It was introduced to the states in Fl and Tx. The scientific note was published in the The Pan-Pacific Entomologist in the Oct 2013 edition and the range was expanded to California.

Well that answers my question. So what I have is not Sac spiders. That is a relief. they can bite . The bite even if non venomous ,takes a long time to heal. Thanks for taking a look at it. Spider ID can often be tricky.

Thanks Cindy. I do have Sac spiders .Lately I see black ones and i often wondered if they are black sac spiders.if I find any ant mimic here,would you be interesting in knowing that? to add to your research?

Maybe for the family of spiders, yes. This particular species most notable physical feature is the markings on the abdomen.
