Field Notes

Description:

Native to the southeastern U.S. Small tree, like other Cornus trees ... Flowering dogwood, Kousa dogwood. Food source for wildlife, especially birds. Couldn't get to the trunk, or really even gauge height exactly, it was wedged in scrubby woods at the edge of a field.

Notes:

While I'm pretty sure about the ID, it is my first look at this tree. And I couldn't see it all because it was surrounded by thick growth ... other trees, brush, bushes. I should be able to visit it at different times of the year, and check the flower, the fruit later on, etc.
