Xylophanes zurcheri
Xylophanes zurcheri
10.4503, -84.0683
Field Notes
Description:
Green forewings with brown black hindwings. Underside has a lichen pattern possibly for mimic. Medium sized hawk moth with very defined wing outline. Females are almost always larger than males, males have more green on forewings.
Habitat:
Neotropical Cloud forests and Rainforests
Notes:
Found this gal at a black light sheet set up by the Selva Verde Lodge for observing and I just had to photograph her. Never seen many sphinxes in the Xylophanes genus so I was very happy to see this rather uncommon, little known species on my vacation in Costa Rica.
