Field Notes

Description:

Typical large 'praying' arms of this mantis make it likely to be the Mantis religiosa. The mantis had a strange walk - almost two steps forward, one step back... Very tentative walk - maybe to aid in camouflage on a green background.

Habitat:

This mantis would be very well camouflaged in the surrounding bushes.

Notes:

This particular specimen was spotted late in the evening on the third floor of our apartment block. May have strayed in attracted by the evening lighting on the stairs like all the other moths and insects. It had disappeared by next morning.

Thank you all for the ID, comment and favs.
there was a spotting in which a praying Mantis was spotted in a moving train in Bombay! Must be a Gravid female, considering the size?..
