Field Notes
Description:
The Common Wall Lizard is a small lizard (max. 20 cm - 7.9 in) very versatile in colour and scale pattern. Its coloration is generally brownish or greyish, and may occasionally be tinged with some green as in this specimen. One of only two small Lacertidae native to North, West and Central Europe.
Habitat:
Stonewalls, rocks, quarries. Spotted here basking in the sun on a stone wall near my house, where they can be found by the dozen.
Notes:
The presence of these lizards can be encouraged by the preservation or creation of small structures such as rock piles and stone walls.
