Field Notes

Description:

An extraordinarily well-hidden Katydid with an exact match in color to the leaves it lives on. (Phaneropterinae, Tettigoniidae).

Habitat:

Heavy shrubbery along the highway between San Cristobal de Las Casas and Tuxtla Gutierrez, km 11.5, 865 meters.

Notes:

My pictures are just not clear enough for species identification. There are at least 21 species of Scudderia and other genera which also look similar.

Thank you Wilson. I wish my pictures were better and had a closer view of the genital end. Can't even tell if it is male or female. I reviewed through the Scudderia group and there is a lot of color variation and many species. Unfortunately my photos aren't adequate for telling which species it is. You gave me a great place to start investigating Bush Katydids! Thanks!
