Field Notes

Description:

Beautiful large white mushrooms about 4 inches across the cap, 3 in a cluster, 1 separate, stipe about 4 inches long, white with black flecks forming, bulbous, gills white adnate, spore print creamy white. Faint mushroom-y smell.

Habitat:

Bare ground with grass and new forming blackberry vines in a goat pen on our property. Temperate westcoast rainforest, Maple Ridge, BC.

Notes:

Photo 4 shows the spore print on pink paper. The white paper spore print was so faint. Photo 3 shows the vertical slice through the stipe and cap to show the adnate gill structure. I really loved these beautiful mushrooms. If they are Clitocybe connata, they may contain muscarine and other bioactive compounds.

Yes, it does look like a great site. It does say that C. connata is often called dilatata so I looked that up and am still pretty sure of my ID. Although with mushrooms......?!
