Field Notes

Description:

Paler in color than most other Great Spangled Fritillaries I have seen. Also, more significant brown, centralized markings beginning from thorax and expanding outward. Apparently this is a common variant in the mountainous west.

Habitat:

Sub-alpine woodland.

Notes:

This particular spotting was very close to the North Fork Cut Bank Creek proximal to the park boundary fence remnants in a heavily overgrown area.
