Field Notes

Description:

Small orange butterfly with sexual dimorphism. Males, which look like small fritellaries scout for females. This one boldly landed right in front of me and then let me inch closer and closer to him.

Notes:

Our local extension office apparently doesn't know the difference between crescents and Speyerii as all the kids' entomology projects had crescent marked Speyerii sp.
