Sheet Spider Web

Large, about 6 inches or 15 cm. Unlike orbweavers, few of the silk strands in sheet webs are sticky. Instead the spiders use tripwires, baffles, and tangles to delay their prey until they can deliver a lethal bite. Several different web designs are found in this family including the bowl and doily, dome, and sheet. Most web designs have a horizontal sheet above which the female resides. None of the webs has a retreat, or hiding place, for the spider. Sheet webs are often seen on dew-covered lawns and, sometimes several of these spiders form colonies on the same plant.
