Field Notes

Description:

A long, thin rough fish with armor-like scales. The body of the spotted gar has several black spots. Gar are best known for their long mouth full of needle sharp teeth.

Habitat:

Canal habitat. Found in weeds along the canal.

Notes:

The population of spotted gar has really grown in the past 5 years. The population of bow fisherman has grown as a result. The carcass was found about 30 yards from the canal, possibly indicating that it was shot and tossed into the weeds. This is quite common along this stretch of water.
