Field Notes

Description:

Black and yellow abdomen, mostly white cephalothorax. Both appear to be females at approximately 1" each. Web of the one in the jewel weed plant is appx 16" wide. The other in the eaves of the office building is closer to 18"-20". They can be as big as 2 feet across. The zig zag design in the center known as a stabilimentum is distinctive to the this web.

Habitat:

Sunny gardens and under eaves of outbuildings. Can be commonly found in the contiguous United States, Hawaii, Southern Canada, Mexico and Central America.

Notes:

I took these at the campground where I live year round.
