Field Notes

Description:

I guess it's a fungus, but looks like a bunch of flowers in miniature. It is relatively common where this specimen was found.

Habitat:

Brazil's interior, MG state. It clings to the stem of live plants in a well-shaded and moist environment.

Notes:

Like most fungi, it is remarkable super sensitivity of this species with respect to the environment where it proliferates. Just a little more light available, in addition to the ideal, can decimate it. Three days after pruning the plant where he was was enough for him to disintegrate completely.

This is not Xanthoria parietina, Xanthoria, or Xanthomendoza. Those are all lobed, X. parietina has rather broad lobes too. http://www.lichens.lastdragon.org/Xanthoria_parietina.html

Thank you SanjaySaklani, AshleyT, mcaul6515 and Agustín! Agustín, yes, in my Internet searches I've found many similar species, but the exactly one I have not found yet. Precisely because of those "hairs". The Teloschistes Chrysophthalmus by Braulio's suggestion is the one closest so far, but unfortunately still not 100% equal. Thank you!

Very pretty, seems happy with moisture. It's structure is similar to the Teloschistes Chrysophthalmus, but they tend to be more orange and have “hairs” coming out of the “eyes” (apothecia).
