Description:

This damselfly is about 1.5 inches long and is black with neon blue markings and spots on its wings.

Habitat:

My backyard, along an inland fresh water canal in western Boca Raton, FL

Thanks to Malcolm, Liam and Jellis for helping to finally identify this as a Rambur's forktail!
Also if you look at the end of the abdomen (tail) you will see the last blue segment is a partial from the bottom up halfway.
I agree with Liam. Blue tail is a European dasmelfly. It's definitely a Rambur's. Forktail.
In my limited experience of oding in FL, I found Rambur's to be the most common damsel.
Thanks Malcolm, the spotting does look just like the Blue-tailed. But since this spotting was in Florida, and I have read that the Blue-tailed Damselfly has a range between Western Europe and Japan, I am wondering if this is actually a Rambur's forktail (Ishnura ramburi). I have such a hard time identifying these damselflies as so many look similar. Anyone know if Blue-tailed are seen in the US?
