Field Notes

Description:

Eresia eunice is a species of insect moth of the family Nymphalidae , the subfamily Nymphalinae , tribe Melitaeini and under tribe Phyciodina and kind Eresia .

Eresia eunice is distributed throughout much of tropical Central and South America, from Nicaragua to Bolivia.

Habitat:

This sun-loving species is found in disturbed forest at altitudes between about 100-800m, occupying forest edge habitats where there is a profusion of low vegetation. Examples include river banks, forest clearings, glades and roadsides.

Notes:

This may be the same butterfly as the spotting before. It was taken only 15 minutes later. But the white spots along the border don't seem so pronounced.
