Description:

It was so large I thought it was a bird!! This is the most beautiful butterfly I have ever seen!! the snake on the wind was so real it was scary!! the marks on the body and wings remind me of tigers and zebras... when the wings open the most incredible purple/blue and bright yellow spots left me speechless.

Notes:

I am almost sure it is a Owl Butterfly, the only problem I encounter is that I could not find any pictures or comments about the colors/design of the top wings?!

Fantastic! I hope to meet this one someday. As they are very fragile creatures, I advise that you refrain from handling butterflies in manners portrayed in the photos.
Very nice spotting Gilma! I sent a message to you in FB as adding you as a friend option was not there!
To see these beauties flying around, flashing that shiny blue wings is a remarkable experience!
Certainly an Owl Butterfly and in the link you have all views you like including an open wing view... http://insect-creations.com/butterfleye_library_pics/Brassolidae/Brassolidae_Caligo_Atreus_Dionyso_recto_closeup.jpg
