Field Notes

Description:

The designs of mazes on leaves by Leaf Miners never cease to fascinate me. Trails that are serpentine and slowly increase in size as the larva grows are typical of flies of the Family Agromyzidae. See an adult Agromyzid: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/560945735/fullscreen.

Habitat:

Heavy shrubbery along the highway between San Cristobal de Las Casas and Tuxtla Gutierrez, km 11.5, 865 meters.
