Field Notes

Description:

Sometimes called a "writing spider", this is an orb weaver. These two photos show a female which was approximately 25 mm long in body.

Habitat:

Likes flowers, shrubs, and tall plants in suburban and agricultural settings. Forests, marshes, scrub forests, grasslands. Range is from Southern Canada to Central America.

Notes:

This one was on its web between the outside wall of a barn and a nearby plant.
