Field Notes

Description:

Standing by the Costa rica river near Guapiles, deep in the jungle, this butterfly landed on the sand at my feet foe a couple of seconds before rapidly flying off again. Unfortunately I had my zoom lens on, so the photo came out distorted. Enough for an ID, I hope. It was the only time I saw this butterfly in Central America.

Marpesia merops is a butterfly of the family of Nymphalidae , the subfamily of Limenitidinae , gender Marpesia .

hehehe tmvdh, I'm keeping you busy these days! Been a bit tired, many mistakes! That one google translated from Wiki in French and I forgot to change it. They always seem to translate butterfly as moth insect! Really appreciate the close check you keep on your mission. Thank you!
Hi Pam, it's not a moth (as you wrote), but a butterfly.
