Description:
Hymenoptera; Unidentified Chrysididae This wasp is truly a beautiful creature. The iridescent green colour shimmers and sparkles in the sunlight, no matter what angle you are looking from. It must be one of the most beautiful of all insects. It is usually known as a Cuckoo wasp, but when I saw Wikipedia's article saying that it is also called the Emerald Wasp, I immediately changed all my file and folder names to that more appropriate title.
Habitat:
This wasp was spotted when it landed on my hand in our garden. I was already taking some pictures in the garden when the wasp arrived. So I didn't have to dash off and get my camera. It was all very convenient.
Notes:
This Emerald Wasp landed on my hand when I was taking some pictures of a spider (Uloborus plumipes). The spider was of great interest to me and I did not want any distractions, but this beautiful sparkling wasp was also on my wish list. The wasp was calm and did not look like it was aggressive. So I just continued taking my spider pictures, because I had been looking for U. plumipes for a long time. Then I got some pictures of the wasp as well. What a lucky day !
