Field Notes

Description:

2 to 4 feet tall on roadsides and open forests. The blossom has both yellow ray and disk flowers and can be up to 2.5 inches wide. The leaves only appear to be whorled; they are actually opposing, with each leaf having three narrow, lanceolate lobes. This gives the appearance of 6 whorled leaves.

Habitat:

Spotted growing on a shady bank along a dirt road in Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park
