Field Notes

Habitat:

Pacific coastal reef waters

Notes:

These camo experts are one of Hawaii's most hard to see reef fish. They prefer areas among the reef covered in silt or detritus in order to use their skill of changing the texture and color of their skin to match their surroundings. It is my observation after many years that they prefer the inlet of the tidal area towards the apex of the tide flow as to be in position to strike any unnoticing bait fish who come within reach on the reef for shelter from other predators.
