Assassin Bug
Reduviidae
36.4142, -96.3953
Field Notes
Description:
According to wikipedia: "Predatory Reduviidae use the long rostrum to inject a lethal saliva that liquefies the insides of the prey, which are then sucked out. The saliva contains enzymes that predigest the tissues they swallow."
Notes:
Found this assassin bug on the edge of our pool. In the following days after the spotting, I saw several more near the house. We did not see these last year, or any previous year near the pool, or near the house.
The full body shot of the insect was taken as it walked along the edge of the pool. The featured headshot, I felt, gave the impression of some sort of attitude or personality.
It is an amazing looking creature.
