Description:

Family: Nymphalidae. Milkweed Butterfly Female. Wingspan: Up to 4.50 inches (114 mm) Upperside of wings is Tawny orange. Veins and margins are black. In margins are series of small white spots. Head and abdomen are black with white spots. Black legs. Adults feed on nectar of variety of plants including milkweed, goldenrod, asters, thistles,wild carrot, alfalfa, tall ironweed etc. Larval food is milkweed.

Habitat:

Meadow feeding on goldenrod.
