Description:

The Great Southern White (Ascia monuste) is the only species of butterfly of the genus Ascia of the Pieridae family. In this species the sexes may differ with the female being either light or dark colored, while males are always white. It is found from the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of the United States, south through tropical America to Argentina.

The Great Southern White's antennae have a distinctive blue tip. Adults have a low, generally casual flight.

The wingspan is 63–86 mm.

Habitat:

Open sites including roadsides, coastal dunes, salt marshes, vacant fields, agricultural land.

Notes:

This butterfly flew into the car and I had quite a time getting it out.
