I almost forgot! Welcome to Project Noah! :-) One more thing: please join the Snakes of the United States mission (http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/12027210). All snakes can go in there, and any that you find from Sept. 14-22 are counted for the Fall Snake Count. It's very important national data and we can all help in the count. Last item: you are in good company in Bartlesville. Jack Settle and I are also in town and spotting away for Project Noah. Again... welcome! :-)
The quickest way to rule out ring-necked snake is to look at the belly. They have a brightly-colored underside that is unmistakable. Check out the link I provided to see newborn rough earthsnakes (even though the link is titled "None"). :-)
