Field Notes

Description:

These big dragonflies are nearly seven centimeters (3 inches) in length. Eyes form a "shield" over the head and neck. The front thoracic stripe is deeply notched. Thoracic stripes may be blue, green or a combination.

Habitat:

Typically pond and marsh edges, but they are strong fliers and may be found further from water. This particular individual was found in a small forest clearing about 200 meters from water.
