Field Notes

Description:

Family: Geometridae, Subfamily: Ennominae (Typical Geometers) Wingspan: 43-60 mm.Unevenly scalloped wings are pale orange variably speckled and blotched brown. Rest with its wings raised about 45 degrees above the horizontal line although I found this one hanging upside down by a light. Hosts: Deciduous trees including alder, basswood, maple, oak and poplar.

Habitat:

At light during the day near lawn, woodlands and meadow

Notes:

Not to be confused with Large Maple Spanworm Moth (Prochoerodes lineola) Attaches to finger easily. Photos taken in very bright sunlight behind me.
