Field Notes

Description:

Mushroom has no anchor but grows on the ground or just under twigs or leaves. They seem to like to grow in groups of two, although I did see one by itself. Centers are soft, like little bags of powder, and appear to explode when spores are ready. Spores are dark coffee brown. Edges appear as flower petals and have a firm rubbery feel, even after spores have burst.

Habitat:

Generally deciduous forest, but growing under a cedar type tree.
