Field Notes
Description:
The caterpillar has black spines with orange and bright purple stripes. This one is a 4th instar about to shed into a pupa. This one was feeding on Blue crown passion flower vine.
Habitat:
Semi-urban, Fort Worth, Texas.
Notes:
Gulf fritillaries are found in open habitats, like in moderately sunny areas near open grasslands, parks, and woodlands. Gulf fritillaries are also commonly seen in local butterfly gardens across the U.S.
