Field Notes

Description:

Very big -9cm- flying grey / black bug, with nasty hooks on its legs. Covered in dried up mud.

Habitat:

In our garden near jungle and mangroves, Bang Chi Lao , Ratsada, Phuket, Thailand

Notes:

There was a certain season when we would have loads of these around our garden. They were covered in mud and I am pretty sure they must crawl out of the ground at certain times of year. But I have never seen them do it. Our garden had lots of little holes in the ground, which I suspect was made by these ones. I have never found out what their name is or their story. Anyone else?
