Field Notes

Description:

Large fritillary -roughly the size of a queen butterfly.

Habitat:

feeding on "rabbitbrush" in the Modoc Nat forest area near hwy 139. Very dry high desert/sage and pine

Notes:

We were leaving a campgroundd/wayside when I saw them and made my husband stop
