Thanks for the comments Jemma and Mark. I had a look at the link you posted Mark, will try to do a bit more digging now that I kind of know what to look for!
Stacy I have suggested the Ugly milkcap tentatively after reading the above link. Note the comments re 'saprophytic capabilities' which might explain this unusual spotting.
To avoid confusion, Chicken of the woods is a polypore, This has gills. Therefore It does seem like a Oyster mushroom. The color in the link threw me off.

Yep it was quite strange... Uhm, Im really not very good with tree ID's, so Im really unsure of what tree this was. It was a tree stump in any case.
This one is really interesting. A single plate on a tree trunk with gills... !!? Pleurotus sp?? Hmmm... do you remember what type of tree it was and what size this is?
