Field Notes

Description:

Bracket polypores, the largest of which was approx. 15cm wide. Soft texture and fibrous appearance. Edges were quite leathery to touch.

Habitat:

Found on a dead tree trunk amongst native wattle bushes. Seaside location with moist salty air.

Notes:

There also appeared to be older specimens of the same species, also on the same trunk (photos 3&4). These had lost their fibrous appearance, and they looked very dry. They were also much larger, up to approx. 25cm wide. Unlike the newer specimens, the older ones were very wooden. The pores on these were dark (photo 5).
