Field Notes

Description:

Leaves are small (1"), slightly alternating, and fruit is dark brown with deep furrows on the outer casing; nut has a pig nose when opened. I don't think it is a pignut hickory but it also doesn't look to have the leaf structure of try shagbark.

Habitat:

Ruderal; mixed hardwood forest
