Field Notes

Description:

Approximately 24mm long; a complex mixture of patches and patterns including purple shades, gold, cream, grey, brown; distinctive weird tufts give a strange shape to this moth at rest.. maybe a disguise?; these also often seem to be shedding scales which appear like dust all around.

Habitat:

Attracted to bright lights at a used car yard.

Notes:

This moth feeds on Solanaceae and is regarded as a serious pest by many agricultural sectors.
