Field Notes

Description:

An aptly-named species: the adult has a doubly-toothed band on its forewing, the larva has doubly-toothed humps on its back, and the food plant (elm) has doubly-toothed leaf edges. (information from BugGuide)

Habitat:

City park, feeding on elm

Notes:

A common name for this caterpillar is Stegosaurus, which I find funny and awesome at the same time. :-)

Loks like it can turn over and walk on the back legs when tired of walking normally! Great find!
Just when I thought I had seen it all you came with this amazing caterpillar. Congrats Aaron!
The Stegosaurus is my favorite dinosaur ;) This is a pretty neat looking guy though!
