Field Notes

Description:

Castniomera is a genus of moths within the family Castniidae. It is a day-flying moth.

Habitat:

Found flying around trees in the botanical garden in Selva Verde, Costa Rica. This was the only time I saw this moth on the whole trip.

Notes:

I was watching one of these moths flying round, waiting for it to settle so I could get a photograph, when a bird suddenly swooped down and grabed it. A nice meal for the bird!

Wow a moth that flys in the daytime. Thanks bayucca. No wonder I couldn't find it among the butterflies!
