Field Notes

Description:

Smooth, fawn colored dove with black spots on wings and tail. Single black spot behind and below eye. Pointed wedge-shaped tail with white edges.

Notes:

Seen near South Tamarac Lake. They tend to mate for life, roughly 7-10 years. Feeds on the ground. One of the few birds to drink without lifting head. Name comes from its "mournful" cooing.
