Field Notes

Description:

Very handsome, large leaf beetle about 14mm long. Very shiny and black with bright red longitudinal lines. Some lines are discontinuous and display slight waviness. Other specimens I has found have the lines fully continuous... not sure what that means.

Habitat:

Usually on eucalyptus but this one was on a wall at night at the local school; probably drawn there by the bright lights.

Nice beetle There is a wide range of Chrysomelidae observed already in Victoria. Stay tuned for a great season. I've seen one similar and you may want to check my reference to the Morwell NP site which has shorter lateral lines like yours. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7993057 http://morwellnp.pangaean.net/cgi-bin/show_species.cgi?find_this=Paropsisterna%20vittipennis&image_letter=&show_image=../images/half_size/Paropsisterna_vittipennis_half&show_date=2010-02-03&show_caption=Paropsisterna%20vittipennis%20beetle%20by%20the%20Jumbuk%20Road%20Track
